The 2024 College Football Season is finally upon us as we kickoff with Week 0. Why do we call it Week 0? That is the most idiotic thing in the world. Just call it Week 1. Look I already digress, let’s try this again.
Week 0 is upon us, so let’s get excited to have the College Football season begin! This year more than ever I think the excitement of the College Football Playoff (CFP) is at an all-time high with the expansion of 12 teams in the CFP.
I am no expert in College Football and as you will see my fandom only lies in the likes of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With that said, here is my 2024 CFP Predictions:
What 12-Teams Make the Playoffs?
The 2024-2025 College Football Playoff is going to be a big change, expanding to 12 teams.
Here’s how it works: The top five conference champions automatically get in, while the next seven highest-ranked teams fill out the rest of the spots. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee decides the rankings, looking at everything from who won their conference to how tough their schedule was and how they performed in key matchups.
The top four conference champions get a huge advantage—they’re seeded 1 through 4 and earn a first-round bye, meaning they skip straight to the quarterfinals. The teams ranked fifth through eighth will host the quarterfinals, giving them home-field advantage, which could be a game-changer.
Top 4 Seed Predictions
The College Football Playoff top 4 seeds will all receive a bye and here are my 2024 predictions on who those will be:
- #1 Texas Longhorns
- Boom. Bold take right off the bat. I know I am going to get a lot of heat from this one, but let’s be honest there are five teams that all could argue they have a chance at the #1 seed and I think the Longhorns schedule sets up to be the best chance to run the table or end up with only 1 loss. They come into the season as the #4 team in the AP Poll and if they can get past their first big test on 9/7 vs Michigan they set themselves up to grab this spot with a win over Georgia at home in mid-October and potentially knock Georgia out of getting to the SEC Championship game.
- #2 Oregon Ducks
- In their first season in the Big 10 the Ducks have a very favorable schedule only playing really Ohio State and Michigan. I do not think they lose both those games which means most likely they find themselves in a rematch with the one they do lose to for the Big 10 Championship. It’s hard to lose twice to a team in a year and I think they win the Big10 in their first season. Also, I hate Ohio State and Michigan so there was no way I was putting either of them here!
- #3 Miami Hurricanes
- I know your thinking, WHAT!!! Hear me out. The Hurricanes kickoff their season with a derby against the Florida Gators and play FSU in late October. Other than those two games there is nothing that scares me on their schedule. I think they have a chance here to win the ACC and take a bye from someone like FSU or Clemson.
- #4 Kansas State Wildcats
- I am going to continue to shock you with one more bye with the Wildcats winning the Big-12. I think the championship game comes down to Utah vs Kansas State and honestly it is a coin toss. With that being said, I think that only one team from this conference will make the college football playoff and I like underdogs.
College Football Playoff 1st Round Matchups
So now that we have our Top 4 teams that will be receiving a first round bye in the College Football Playoff, what other 7 teams will be in and who will they face-off against.
#5 Georgia vs #12 Clemson
- These two teams ironically meet in Week 1 of the season. Committee’s typically do not want to see season rematches in the first round of the College Football Playoff, however, since it will be nearly 20+ weeks since they met I think this will happen. The Bulldogs schedule is brutal but I think they over power a Clemson team that is just lucky enough to get in.
- Winner: Georgia Bulldogs
#6 Ohio State vs #11 Ole Miss
- As much as I would like to just continue to screw over Ohio State they most likely will be in this spot with a very favorable matchup against the Rebels out of the SEC. Mississippi glides into October with no real issues and I think that helps propel them to a playoff spot but Ohio State is to much for them.
- Winner: Ohio State
#7 Alabama vs #10 FSU
- It is going to be a weird season with Alabama. No Nick Saban and we most likely will see them not as dominant as we are used to. They also have a brutal backend to their schedule and I think even if they beat Georgia in late September they don not find themselves in the SEC Championship game and will need this at-large bid to get into the College Football Playoff. FSU I am very high on this season and I think we see our first upset in the CFP.
- Winner: FSU
#8 Notre Dame vs #9 Penn State
- So honestly and without bias I do think that the Fighting Irish could be 12-0 or 11-1. I think they have a easy schedule and that if they do not lose to a team like they did a couple years back (Marshall) they could run the table with a win vs FSU. However, with the Irish not being in a conference even if they did go 12-0 the highest they can be is #5. In reality they will probably go 10-2 and find themselves in a spot to play a good school out of the Big 10. This is a dream matchup for the committee as they want the Irish to join the Big-10.
- Winner: Notre Dame
College Football Playoff Quarterfinals
#1 Texas vs #8 Notre Dame
- The Irish luck ends here, they were probably lucky to get past a Penn State squad. Texas is too good and I think it is their year to create something special.
- Winner: Texas
#4 Kansas State vs #5 Georgia
- This is where the college football playoff gets interesting. The 4v5 matchup will in my opinion now hurt the Big-12 Conference winner. Georgia is going to be a double digit favorite in this matchup and this might be the worst “bowl” game of the season.
- Winner: Georgia
#2 Oregon vs #10 FSU
- If this one comes to fruition I think it will be the game in the college football playoff that i am most excited about. Oregon is a run and gun type style offense where FSU likes to ground you down on defense with a great running game. This one is a coin flip, but my wife who graduated from Miami told me I cannot have FSU win twice so…
- Winner: Oregon
#3 Miami vs #6 Ohio State
- Speaking of the Hurricanes this would be a great rematch of the National Championship game where I believe the Hurricanes got screwed by the officials. Regardless, I cannot stand the Buckeyes (despite living in Ohio). So I will have the Hurricanes win this rematch to make up for 22+ years of having that game hang over their heads.
- Winner: Miami
College Football Playoff Semifinals
#1 Texas vs #5 Georgia
- Like I said I think this is the year Texas makes a run at the national title. The only thing that worries me is the fact that Georgia if they make it this far, will have played the most grueling schedule and they will most likely be battle tested. I hate to say it but I don’t think that Texas having just won vs a much less Irish team will show up in the 1st half of this game and Georgia will put it on them. Texas will find their ground in the 2nd half, but to little to late.
- Winner: Georgia
#2 Oregon vs #3 Miami
- The Oregon Ducks problem for the last decade has been playing in the Pac-12 where they have had little competition to make them a better team. This year they are going to have some adversity and I think that propels them over Miami. Miami is going to be a cinderella team this season and this is where the clock strikes midnight.
- Winner: Oregon
College Football Playoff Championship Prediction
#5 Georgia vs #2 Oregon
- Honestly I hate going chalk and Georgia in the championship sort of feels chalk but not the way the seeds played out this year. Oregon is an interesting team, they have been dubbed a team that can never get over the hump because of their defensive let downs. I think this season they will find themselves within the Big-10 learning how to play that kind of style of football and we will see a much better flow from their defense.
- By this point of the season Georgia will be beaten up and this is where I think playing 4 games extra will hurt them.

Day #23 Recap:
$200 ➡️ $200K Challenge Bet: Gleyber Torres Over 2.5 HRR
- He lead off the game with a double and after no one could get him home you just got this feeling that this was not going to hit. I think the Yankees need to take Torres out of this leadoff spot and put him in the six hole.
Miami Dolphins vs Tampa Bay Bucs Over 37.5
- We continue to have success in our NFL preseason bets. The Bucs offense was going to play the first series and that lead to a TD. With 31 points through the 3rd all I needed was one more TD. Luckily the Bucs went for it on 4th & goal and converted on the extra point giving this one a narrow win.
Sheffield United vs Leeds Over 10.5 Corners
- Just 20 minutes into this match this looked like a decent bet. 80 mintues into this match this looked like the worst bet this week. Only 5 corners in the match after there was nearly 60 min played without a corner.
- It pained me yesterday to take the Rangers over the Guardians, but, Cleveland is in a downward spiral and they might be out of first place in the AL Central by the end of the weekend. I might continue to fade them in the short term against good teams.

What I Learned:
Cleveland Guardians Will Disappoint in Playoff: The Guardians have been extra awful lately and as a Cleveland fan it is disappointing because we have had for the most part the best record in the MLB all season. Our record against teams over .500 is just around .500 and even if we make the playoff (which I think there is a chance we do not) I see us losing to the first team we play.
