My gracious Uncle floated me tickets to the Cleveland Browns game vs the Minnesota Vikings yesterday. Looking back great move on his part as the 2nd half of the game and walk back to the car was played in a monsoon. Nevertheless my wife and I took it as a great opportunity to take our daughter to her first ever Cleveland Browns game.

I would just like to say to any parent out there wondering what specific football game should be a baby’s first, its most definitely a preseason one for a couple of reasons. First, not one person cares about the preseason so you have less people to deal with at the stadium which creates a very quiet environment. Second, the mascot and all other kids amenities are more easily accessible to get to with less crowds. Our daughter within seconds upon entering the stadium was able to get her 1st Game Certificate and Pin. Lastly, crowds at preseason games clear out in the 2nd half rather quickly so you feel like you have the whole stadium to enjoy with child.

I would like to think that my wife and I stumbled on this secret, but I saw more kids at the Cleveland Browns game yesterday than I have ever before.

Cleveland Browns game

If you notice my daughter upon arrival to the Cleveland Browns game had a lot of skepticism in her face having heard the screaming and yelling this past January during a Playoff game. She was right to have skepticism even though it was a preseason game. The Cleveland Browns have been the guiding force between drinking for the past 40 years to many adult males that live in the Cleveland area.

Still, I assured her that we have hope because Dorian Thompson-Robinson (DTR) was starting. What I forgot about was the fact that our 2nd string secondary and much of our defensive line are not great.

Nick Mullens on the opening drive went down the field 75-yards on 8 plays in just a little over three minutes and gave the Vikings a 7-0 lead. Still I reassured my daughter that DTR was about to take the field and leave his mark on why he should be considered a starting QB in the NFL.

Luckily, he proved me right matching the Vikings opening drive and leading the Browns 69-yards in 8 plays for a TD making it 7-7.

This is where we should have left the game.

Instead I felt that it was important to give my daughter the whole Cleveland Browns game experience and stay for the entirety which looking back may give her PTSD at 7-months old.

The Browns after their first drive would only go on to get a field goal and a safety the rest of the way losing 27-12. Now, it would be easy to look at that score line and say that the Cleveland Browns were awful, and as much as that is true, this week I am going to look at the positives.

DTR and Huntley had a combined 72% completion rate. That is actually impressive. Ha, who am I kidding that was the only positive. They also combined for 3 INT’s and honestly the Browns could have thrown six INT’s if Winston would have played 3 snaps in the game.

I mean to anyone out there saying well they are the third and fourth string QB’s just remember they are also going up against the third and fourth string defenses. So, yea, embarressing.

With rain starting in the 4th quarter my daughter in her first ever Cleveland Browns game was able to also experience the felling of being kicked while were down with also then having to walk back 20-minutes in a monsoon.

In the end, it was a successful day as a family being able to take my daughter to her first Cleveland Browns game. With the NFL preseason now only being three games the Cleveland Browns have a lot to prove to me and my daughter that this year is going to be anything different than the previous 40.

The Browns final preseason matchup will be on the road vs the Seattle Seahawks at 10pm est this Saturday, August 24th. I need them to win this game for a couple reasons. First, if you want me to stay up to 1am after the age of 40 you better show up and get the job done. Second, wife and her entire family is from Seattle and keep pushing the fact that my daughter should be a Seahawks fan. That will not be happening regardless of the outcome of this game, but just so I dont have to hear anything more about it….just win.

Day #17 Recap

$200 ➡️ $200K Challenge Bet: Bristol City vs Millwall Over 2.5

  • There were two goals in the first twelve minutes of the 1st half giving us hope this would be an easy winner. As we know there are no easy winners and despite this game ending in 7 goals we still had to wait till the 51′ for the winner.

Nottingham Forest vs Bournemouth Over 2.5

  • My Saturday’s are filled with football around the world in my office. I typically am watching at least two Premier League & EFL games around the 10am est. window and this one I was glued to.
  • I was definitely disappointed that we couldn’t get this one over the 2.5 but I do think the bet was the right one as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • In the 23′ Nottingham scored to take a 1-0 lead and the game really opened up.
  • 15 SOG in total in the match with a ton of chances from both sides but the only other goal came in the 86′ minute on a Semenyo equalizer.

Northampton vs Exeter Over 2.5

  • This match I did not watch, but for some reason was really never nervous after an early goal in the 8′ for this one to get over 2.5.
  • I should have been as we went all the way into the 64′ without another goal, but then when Northampton put one in a minute later we had plenty of time to get the third.
  • Northampton in the 77′ gave us a nice winner and at the time had us 1-1 on the day.

Seattle Seahawks vs Tennessee Over 35

  • If you want to talk more football disappointment look no further than this game. The final score was 16-15 equalling 31 points. Just four short of what we needed.
  • If you take just one, just one of the six field goals made and turned it into a TD instead we at least push. Just to many stalled drives in this one to get over that short total.
  • Sam Howell did look great despite throwing a INT.

What I Learned:

Preseason Week #2 – QB’ Battles: This will not be something that I can make an adjustment on till next year but something I noticed within organizations in the NFL this week. Teams are using the second game of the preseason now to primary play two QB’s that are facing off against each other to make a roster spot. We saw DTR and Huntley in the Cleveland Browns game, and Howell and PJ Walker in the Seahawks game. Just something to focus on when maybe looking at preseason week 2 in 2025.
